In this article, I will discuss various career options after 10th.

This year around 16lacs student appeared class 10th board exam. Results declared in the month of June. It’s the period of nervousness and anxiety for students. Class 10th or matriculation exam is stepping stone for a career. It acts a base for various professional and academic career opportunities. One must decide and choose a proper a good option among various career options after 10th.

At this critical junction, one must choose a better career path to provide a right course to his career. The most crucial question arises in students’ mind what the career options are after 10th?

Well! There are significant numbers of opportunities available in the present world. Each opportunity has its own better job prospects, the potential for growth, advantages, and disadvantages.

For example, choosing commerce stream provides a good career in sectors like Investment Analyst, Chartered Accountancy, Stock Broking, and Company Secretary and much more. Science stream also provides many excellent career opportunities. Thus, making the decision for choosing the right career options after 10th is very much essential.

However, external pressure and expectations from parents, elders create a lot of confusion. The choice should be based on likeness because if you do the work which you like or on what are good at, then will be very active in your job which will be right for you and the organization for which you will be working.

Likeness shouldn’t be sole criteria students should also judge their capability before choosing one of the career options after 10th.

One’s choice marks obtained in class 10th and aptitude should be the criteria based on which a decision should be made.

The decision of making a choice among various streams available for you is an art. Marks are a basis to evaluate one’s capability, but that’s not correct always.

The main thing of this article is to focus on criteria which should be used to choose a right career option among the various career options after 10th. Here are some of the steps before arriving at any conclusion for better career options after 10th.

1)  Aptitude and Interest

It’s a first step towards deciding among the career options after 10th. This step involves identification and understanding of your interest, personality, ability and strength. This move is of utmost importance, but students do not give it much importance. A career option or stream selected by interest and aptitude makes learning smooth and enjoyable. You shouldn’t choose a career option by being idealistic. A realistic approach towards this step is of utmost necessity.

If you are good at economics, then choosing commerce will be beneficial instead of science. A genuine interest towards a stream makes the learning process enjoyable and fills your professional life with excitement. If you perform a task which you like, then won’t get bored, and you can work much better. However, just having knowledge about your strength and interest is not enough, you need to follow the second step.

2) Exploring and knowing the streams inside out for better career options after 10th

Just knowing about personality, interest, strength and attitude is not enough. You need to explore inside out of the stream which suits you. You should find out various details such as subjects, career paths available, education boards, difficulty level and scope. Let’s take the example of science stream. List all the matter present and important details. For science stream in CBSE board Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Computer Science are the subjects, free groups(Students divided into two groups such as Mathematics and Biology), types of examinations(Written, Practical and competitive exams), the level of difficulty and much more. You can ask for help from senior students, teachers who are presently pursuing and working in the stream.

3) Research the career prospects for better career options after 10th

Passion for a particular course shouldn’t be the only criteria for stream selection. It is the most importance to find out the career prospects associated with a particular course. Research can be done via consulting career counselors, taking help from teachers and seniors, online research, making field trips and much more. If the job prospect in a particular stream is not bright, then it is good to drop the idea. You shouldn’t choose the course and all related streams. In that case, you should look after some other interest, search for courses matching your interest and start doing research on those courses.

If you find the courses suitable for you, and it is matching your interest, then just go for it after your matriculation.

Every student is embedded with his set of unique skills, qualities, weakness, and strengths. Hence, the decision should also be unique. Let’s analyze some of the major streams available after class 10th and associated career scopes with those streams.

Commerce

With the advancement of the economy, accounts and finance have acquired popularity.Thus, It is one of the popular career options after 10th. The core subjects which are taught in commerce stream are Business Study, Accountancy, and Economics. The optional subjects are Mathematics, Physical Education, and Information Practices and much more. In commerce stream students are required to study a compulsory language subject along with other six items(3 compulsories and three optional). This flow provides rewarding careers, great package and respected Jobs like Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Financial Advisor, Banking, Business Management, etc.

Science is a favorite stream for various career options after 10th. This stream is popular among Indian students. It is a platform for many disciplines like engineering, medical sciences, defense, computer science, agricultural sciences, Evolutionary Biology, Plant Pathology, Pharmacy, Paramedical, Nursing and so on. However, this stream can be broadly classified into two types-

A) Engineering

B) Medical

A) Engineering or Non-Medical Line:

Students who are interested in non-medical lines or engineering line, they can go for PCM subjects in science stream. PCM represents Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. These are compulsory subjects. Along with it,  they have to study English as a compulsory language subject and some other languages like Hindi, Odia, Bengali, etc. The study of other languages mostly depends on the institutes. There are also some optional subjects like Physical Education, Computer Science, Electronics, etc. So at most students have to study seven subjects (3 compulsory subjects, two language subjects, and two optional subjects)and at least five items(3 compulsories, one language and one optional). The no of subjects to be studied by students mostly depend on institutes.

Maths in Class 12th provides the path for joining NITs, IITs and other prestigious colleges. It has become a tendency among parents to make their child join engineering courses. They think that it will provide them excellent career opportunity and growth. Most of the students join engineering colleges without analyzing their capabilities, interest.

Well! The thought process of parents is not good because there are other career opportunities available which provide the same platform for growth just like engineering. It is vital to analyze your capability because you will be wasting your 3 to 4 years on studying in the field in which you are not interested. So instead of following like minded people, try to analyze your capability and start acting now.

B) Medical(PCB)-

This line provides a good career opportunity for those who are interested in life sciences and are willing to discover something new in human life. This field requires a lot of dedication and hard work. To make your advancement in a Medical career, you require choosing PCB as your major. PCB represents Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. After choosing PCB as your major in +2 science, you require appearing in various competitive exams and choose a professional medical course on which you want to make your career. There are numerous options for choosing a course. You can choose one among them. Some of those courses are biotechnology, MBBS, Nursing, BDS, forensic science, veterinary studies, etc.

Arts/Humanities

This stream has the widest range of career options after 10th with exciting growth opportunities. The subjects available in this stream are Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Journalism, Human Resources, Religion, Literature, Performing Arts and much more. Students are required to choose two languages in the arts field. Out of which English is a compulsory language. Hindi, Sanskrit, Oriya, etc. are optional words.

This stream is a combination of many fields.It is an ocean of knowledge. This flow helps students find many good options to make a bright future. This stream is a door for civil services examination for becoming IPS, IFS and IAS officers.

Along with academic discipline, this flow requires speculative, analytical, and critical study of human conditions using various methodologies.

Diploma Courses:

Diploma courses are good career options after 10th for those students who want to do jobs after matriculation. Scope for higher education and career, jobs within a short duration of time, cost effectiveness are some excellent opportunities for diploma courses. Students with Diploma get recruited as Junior Engineer in PSU, state/central governments, or railways. As work experience grows, promotion gets easier. These courses mainly concern with practical approach rather than theory. It provides competency to students for industry oriented jobs.

The Diploma courses time duration is three years. It also acts as an entrance point for engineering courses. Moreover, Diploma students can directly enroll in the 2nd year of engineering courses, which gives them the privilege of 1 year and there a duration for the engineering course becomes three years. The competition level for diploma students is less as compared to 12th pass students who try to enroll in engineering courses. There are several polytechnic courses available in the market. ITI career courses are the most sought career options after 10th in India. These courses offer promising career choices. ITI stands for Industrial Training Institutes. There are around 130 different specializations available across the country. The sole purpose of these courses is to provide trade skills chosen by the candidates. These Courses takes six months to two years. The duration mostly depends upon the type of subject. After finish the course, students are required to appear All India Trade Test. Then National Trade Certificate is given to the strong candidates.

They can join as soldiers in Indian Army by giving various examinations like Indian Army Soldier Clerks Examination(N.E.R.), Indian Army Soldier General Duty, India Army Soldier Technical Examination(M.E.R.), etc.

Students can also apply to join in Indian Navy as Sailors, Dockyard Apprentice, etc. for better career options after 10th.

Staff Selection Commissions(SSC)

For class 10th pass students or matriculates, SSC also provides career options after 10th by conducting clerk grade examination.
